Net Fail

Everywhere I look on the web I see people chattering away about the 6th edition shakeup.  How allies, the double FOC, or new random dice additions have broken the game.

Well folks, you're just going to have to get over the fact that 6th ed is different...that or go back to playing 5th.  Nobody should really care that much about winning games with toy soldiers.  The people that do wont find me on the other side of the table.

That being said, I do like to eek out an efficient army that fits my playstyle with an utter disregard for GW's elaborate backstory.  I also like to play in the most correct way possible.  But if it comes to a dispute about an interpretation of the rules, I'm more than happy to find a quick solution and then discuss or examine it later.

I've been enjoying this new edition.  I play with the double FOC and have no problem with allies.  Afterall, its not like we're getting free extra points to spend on the new goodies.  We're still bringing the same amount of points to the table.  And if I find myself across the table from that guy that brings Epidemius and 20 grots, I'll likely just shake his hand and wish him luck and find a new opponent.

You see, douchebags are self policing.  Sure, you have no choice who you play at a tournament (actually, you do, but that involves dropping games).  For casual play though, those people find themselves all alone...or in our local case, at another store stomping newbies who dont know enough to actually call him out on cheating.   But I digress.

6th edition has given 40k a new life, with interesting and quirky additions.  Adapt and have fun.

Contrast Crons

Tinkering with my color scheme now.  I've decided on black bodies with pale blue highlights.  Energy glows will be a deeper blue to a pale blue.  Maybe some white or metallic trim here and there.

Tentative progress thus far.

Necrons Assemble!

Standing my warriors upright was fairly successful.  Got some interesting poses out of them.  Hopefully those thin ankles wont snap.

Have decided to use the Deathmark torsos for my immortals.  Going to trim off the connection cable from the Gauss Blasters too.  Should all work out well.

Started assembly of my first Annihilation Barge.  Got the sub assemblies together and will have to paint them before final assembly.  I loved the way everything fits together in this kit though, very well designed.

For colors I'm looking at a flat black base for the body and doing all the hard edges and glows in a bright orange/yellow orange.  Either that or doing black armored bits (shoulders/Deathmark torsos), with white/bone skulls/arms/legs.  Going to do some color samples this week...I havent been this excited about painting minis in a while.

Now I have:
2 Annihilation Barge kits
2 Immortal kits
18 Warriors
~38 individual Scarabs
1 pewter Necron Lord
1 Stormlord

Eventually the following will be added:
1 Praetorian kit
1 Annihilation Barge
2 Command Barges
3-5 Night Scythe kits
3-5 Immortal kits
3 Heavy Destroyers
2 Ghost Arks
6-8 Warriors (just Warriors, not kits)

Potential additions:
2 Doomsday Arks
3 Canoptek Spiders

Hunchcrons

In the grimdark future of the 41st millennium, the scourge of the stars lumbers forward relentlessly. Carrying Gauss Flayers that must weigh as much as a Stormraven. I've never liked the hunched look of Necron Warriors, so I've commenced cutting joints and making them a bit more upright. Not likely to do it for my Immortals (as they're just stockier and the new plastics for them look great). Happen to have 18 Warriors in laying around that were never assembled and didnt phase out with the rest of my first Necron army...and something around 13 bases worth of scarabs.

Still trying to figure out what I'm going to use for a paint scheme on my Necrons. That should start revealing itself to me when i start slinging some paint on test models.

In the meantime, here's a list i've assembled out of a few new kits and some bits I have laying around.

Necrons 500

HQ Overlord Warscythe, Semptiternal Weave

Royal Court
Cryptek Eldritch Lance

T1 Warriors x5

T2 Warriors x5

T4 Immortals x5 Gauss

FA1 Scarabs x5

Hv1 Annihilation Barge Guass Cannon

Total 500

I foresee greentide orks giving this list problems. But it will be fun to play as I ramp up the rest of the army.

I've opted for the Gauss Blasters on the Immortals instead of Tesla Carbines. I'd rather not have to depend on 6's to hit to deal more damage and rapid fire weapons are solid in 6th ed. The loss of assault is moot for them...and Gauss is much more deadly vs vehicles.

Annihilation Barges should still be awesome. Gauss Cannon to go with the twin linked Tesla Destructor is purely for vehicles. Its the loadout I plan on running in bigger games.

So I've decided to not go the Tyranid conversion route for Necrons.  Picked up an Annihilation Barge this weekend.  Now I just have to decide on a paint scheme...thinking red energy instead of green, with dark contrasting bodies.

Counts as Necrons

Back in the middling days of 5th edition I used to play both Tyranids and Necrons.  Then I decided that I could use the extra cash and sold my Necrons.  Well, the new 'Cron codex dropped and I got to looking at the new models and the new rules and really liked what I saw.  So I started tinkering with list builds etc.  My nids were far from completion (still are now that 6th is about) and I didnt want to drop the cash on a new army.

My solution?  Convert some of my nids into counts as that can be used in either army.  Additionally, I plan on scratch building the vehicles.

Considerations:
Termagants (Fleshborers) as Warriors
Termagants (Devourers) as Immortals
Dress up some Genestealers (Rippers in hands for staffs, etc) as Crypteks and Overlords
Scratch build some Destroyer bodies.

For vehicle construction, well thats a work in progress.  I used Adobe Illustrator to scale up the picture of the Night Scythe and extrapolated size data that way.  I came out pretty close compared to the actual model (I did this sometime shortly after the Necron codex came out).

I'm still trying to figure out how I want to go about building out the scythe models.  Currently I've used expanding foam to build up a sheet styrene silhouette of one and am tinkering in skinning it in greenstuff.  To avoid having to hand build each vehicle, I'm looking into inexpensive ways to cast it.  The current big contender is to use a Silicone mold with Polyester Resin (Fiberglass).  After a very rough estimate it puts me at around $20 a model.  Another method is to use expanding foam in a mold and have a more fragile and less detailed model.  That will put me at significantly less per model, but give me something extremely impermanent.

Work So Far:
Basic Profile done in sheet styrene.

Covered Profile in Expanding Foam (Great Stuff)

Cut away foam in to shape it up with a bread knife.

Front of the scythe.
That night most of the foam collapsed, reducing the profile to be more like an actual Necron Scythe.  It ended up hugging the fins on top and bottom.

Hello world!

Going to start off HoW with a new bug list I'm working on. I'm not really worried about tournaments, so i'm not worried about running the 2 FOC controversy you see people knee jerking about.

Here I have 2 variants with lots of str6+ and instant death in assault. Biggest problem I see with these two is a low model count, even with 2 Tervigons that I usually run (averaging 30-50 gants a game for me). I'll tinker with a more swarmy build later.
